Scientists invent new printing papers without reprinting with ink
Recently, Yadong Yin, a professor of chemistry at the University of California, Riverside, collaborated with the Shandong University of China and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to develop a new type of printing paper. According to reports, the printing paper can print text without ultraviolet light.
It is reported that the paper can be erased after heating, and can be repeatedly printed more than 80 times.
It is understood that the new printing paper uses two kinds of nanoparticles, one of which is the common non-toxic blue pigment Prussian blue, and the other is the non-toxic chemical titanium dioxide. Both of these nanoparticles react in response to light. Mixing the two nanoparticles in a solution and then applying them to a piece of plain paper will turn them into a dark blue color.
In the printed text experiment, scientists placed a mask with an etched font on the treated paper. After exposure to ultraviolet light, photons in the ultraviolet light contact the nanoparticles of titanium dioxide through the hollowed holes in the mask, after which the electrons release electrons. These electrons combine with the Prussian blue nanoparticles to become colorless.
In addition, scientists have developed a prototype printer that supports UV printing. Scientists expect to develop printers that can print UV-printed paper on standard-sized paper in the future, and expect full-color printing.
It is reported that the text printed on the UV print can be kept for at least 5 days, and the writing on the paper can be easily eliminated after heating for 10 minutes. This reprintable paper can be used to create newsprints, notepads, and price tags that often need to be adjusted.
