Turkish production of waterproof coatings from polypropylene

Researchers at the University of Kocaeli in Turkey have developed a simple and easy method for producing super hydrophobic waterproof coatings using stereo isotactic polypropylene (iPP). The process method is to use a solvent treatment method to form a sol-like iPP coating, the surface structure of which is waterproof like a lotus leaf. According to researchers, the coating can be widely used on glass, metal, textiles and other structural surfaces.
The researchers dissolved iPP in p-xylene and added cyclohexanone, isopropanol, or methyl-solvent (Nonsolvent) to form a sol. The sol was brushed onto the surface of the structure, and the solvent was evaporated to form a coating.
