AR Games | "Dragon and Dungeons" coming soon

Virtual reality puts you in a computer-generated world, and augmented reality adds a layer to the real world. AR feels more suitable for certain games - such as the desktop role-playing game "Dragon and Dungeons."

Dungeons & Dragons is a classic desktop RPG game with four basic components: at least one player, one host, one adventure reel and one sieve. Player background includes humans, dwarves, elves, etc. The characters of different backgrounds are different, and the skills and equipment are different. The host opens the scroll and begins to tell the story. The player needs to bring his character into the scene and decide whether to attack, negotiate with the wicked, participate in dangerous tasks, and so on. Players can make these choices based on their personality, motivation, and goals. If you want, players can even decide their behavior based on their roles.

At the GamesBeat 2016 conference, Dungeons & Dragons developer Nathan Stewart talked about his views on AR. In his opinion, "Dragon and Dungeons" is very suitable for the AR version.

Stewart says role-playing games are great for AR. "Wow, when I first saw the HoloLens demo, I was thinking, yes, this is my dream for AR. Have you seen an electrician helping him? When I saw it, I I think, great, "Dragon and Dungeons" can do the same."

Dungeons & Dragons doesn't have a VR version, but with the Fantasy Grounds and Roll 20 (a virtual setting) simulation desktop, people who are far apart can play this desktop game that requires paper and pen to play. Stewart believes that this service has laid a solid foundation for the AR version of Dungeons & Dragons.

"I want to use Fantasy Grounds and Roll 20 as virtual desktops, just like playing AR games. It's like having a table, no one in front of the table doesn't matter, then DM (game host) is at the table. Gamers and DM Both are AR versions, but DM is more important and different from other people's costumes."

Stewart believes that if we sit around the table, everyone looks down at the game map, watching 3D images, equipment, and DM control reels. But if the DM is not well controlled, and some maps are exposed, the player may associate the background story with the game elements. Instead of asking embarrassing questions, such as: What is your background?

"Are you a wizard Sun? Looks like it, oh yeah! Now you are in danger, just find the player who plays the Wizard Sun."

Game players can easily know each other's background, equipment level and other information. As long as you can turn, attack, jump, don't stop and ask why, is it cool?

Stewart said that AR is a good way to promote "Dragon and Dungeons"'s core gameplay "telling stories" without being confused by the game's statistics and mechanics.

"From gamers, to game characters, to storylines, all the elements that let the player get out of the storytelling situation are abandoned. Gamers should step out of the role-playing circle, don't ask what should be attacked, why attack this? Kind of question. This is not fun. You hit it, this is great! This is my AR version of Dungeons & Dragons.
