Paperback cover form

There are many ways to wrap paperback book covers. In addition to saddle stitching, there are currently two main types of book wrapping for book binding in China: one is to press a groove on the upper and lower spine of the cover according to the thickness of the book block, and then the back of the book block is coated with glue , And the cover are pasted on the back of the book; the other is more common, that is, according to the thickness of the book block, there are four grooves pressed on the cover, the back of the book block is coated with glue, and the cover is pasted on the back of the book , Most books and textbooks use this package form. Normally, when the book block is processed on the perfect binding machine, a 3 ~ 5mm wide glue tape is also painted on both sides along the binding opening, so that the book block is not only connected to the cover, but also can be 3. Sealing and bonding to make the book more firm. The two indentation lines on the cover are similar to the "hinge" of the gate. The cover can be opened and closed freely along the indentation lines, which is very practical.

Regardless of which form is used, the book block after wrapping must be cut on three sides together with the cover. Because these two packages are simple in form and easy to process mechanically, most books use this form. However, this method also has many problems, such as difficulty in reading, limited thickness, etc., and the style is monotonous, which cannot meet the increasingly diverse needs of customers.

Therefore, are there any newer package forms that can provide our customers with a wider range of choices? This is a concern for many bookbinding companies. The following introduces several types of book binding formats commonly used in foreign countries.

1. Swiss Parcel Law

The Swiss binding method is the most beautiful one among the various binding methods for bound books to be introduced below. This method was first named by Swiss Martini after their country, because it was the earliest mechanized processing of this method. This beautiful form of parcel is often used in relatively small merchandise brochures, commemorative brochures, and product manuals with higher design requirements for guesthouse 1, such as cosmetics introductions, car catalogs, etc.

The book block adopting this binding method is not easy to be too thick, otherwise it is not easy to read. At the same time, in order to ensure the quality of folding and reduce folding wrinkles, the number of folding is not easy to be too much, mostly using parallel folding method. Swiss book binding method: cold glue is used for binding, and the back of the book is coated with glue and wrapped with spine paper, as shown in Figure 3N. The entire book core is connected to the cover at the three seals. It should be noted that the width of the bond is greater than the width of the back paper. The cover paper is usually a little thicker, with two indentation lines. After opening the cover, you can clearly see the back of the book block covered with the back paper.

Because the back of the book block book is not bonded to the cover, with the help of flexible spine paper, the entire book is easier to spread out, reading and flipping is also very convenient, and the feel is good. Make the most of it. The wrapped book block can be cut on three sides. If the large front opening is used, it can only cut the head and feet.

2. The Finnish Parcel Law

This form of cover package was the earliest patent applied in Finland, and it was also the earliest that the Swiss Martini company paid it for industrial processing. At present, this form of parcel is widely used by countries around the world.

Initially, this cover-wrapping method was mainly used for the binding of student textbooks. Due to the excellent flipping effect, it is now more used in the binding of thicker book catalogs.

The general wireless binding cover only has four indentation lines, while the cover using this wrapping method has six indentation lines. Unlike ordinary bound books, the cover is not glued to the back of the entire book, but is attached to the second and third seals and the side of the book block. Because there are 6 indentation lines on the cover, books using this wrapping method can be easily laid flat on the table, and it is not easy to pull back in a long time.

Looking at the processing of the book block, the book block still uses wireless binding. After milling, roughening, sawing and other processes, the glue process is entered. The difference is that cold glue is used instead of hot melt glue.

Of the two glues applied at the back of the book, the glue used for the first brush is thinner and less viscous, mainly to connect the loose pages in the book block; the glue used for the second brush is thicker, and The viscosity is also large, so that a connecting glue layer with a certain thickness, flexibility and flexibility can be formed on the back of the book. Finally, a layer of spine paper is pasted on the glue layer, and the entire back of the book block is wrapped by it. Next, brush the side glue. The side glue is hot melt glue. The width of the brush is about 4mm. The hot melt glue ensures that the cover and the back of the book can overlap well.

Since the cover with 6 indentation lines is not completely bonded to the back of the book block, a gap is formed between the back of the book block and the cover. At the same time, the two outermost indentation lines are the "hinge" connecting the cover and the book block. It is very convenient for the book to be flipped or laid flat.

Finally, after two squeezes, the book block and cover are perfectly connected. [next]

3. European Parcel Law

This package form actually made some improvements on the basis of the Finnish package law, which is a simplified form of it.

It was first used in industrial processing by the German Warrenberg binding equipment manufacturing plant (Woh1enberg). The difference from the Finnish parcel law is that the cover of this parcel method only requires 5 indentation lines. The book block behind the book back is glued on the first and second indentation lines at the second seal and pasted on the cover, and the bottom is glued on the fourth and fifth pass and the book block wrapped on the back .

4. Tubular wrapping method

This form of parcel is the same as the Finnish parcel law, the earliest patent application in Finland. There is no direct contact between the book cover bound in this form and the book block. As shown in Figure 6, the back of the book block is not wrapped with a single-sided book back paper, but wrapped with a "paper tube", and glue is applied to the side of the "paper tube" to adhere to the book back. This "tube" similar to the function of the back of the book can be made of paper or other materials. The cover used by it is pressed with 4 indentation lines, and the other half of the "paper tube" is completely bonded to the cover at the first and fourth indentation lines, so that the cover and book block pass through the "paper tube" ', Connected.

This cover wrapping method can use either cold glue or hot melt glue.

V. Opera script wrapping method

This distinctive cover package form is different from the above ones. It was first introduced by a professional binding company based in Bern, Switzerland on the basis of other forms of improvement, and was subsequently widely welcomed by customers. Its cover is usually made of cardboard with 4 indentation lines. On the inner side of the cardboard, that is, we often say the second and third seals, there is a piece of paper with better flexibility, or it is the same as the inner paper. The larger difference is 80 ~ 150g /? Offset paper.

The first to fourth indentation lines on the cover are not attached to the ring liner, but wrapped around the back of the book block. In this way, a hollow area is formed between the book block and the cover, and the book is easier to expand and not easy to pull back when reading.

The advantages of this cover package form are obvious, but there are also its disadvantages, mainly because the cover needs to be specially processed. This hard cover book block can not only use glue binding, but also use lock thread binding to achieve the same effect. Nowadays, this form of cover package is mostly used in some high-quality product catalogs, reference books, business reports, commemorative books and other small batch products.

6. Kui-Re-FR package method

Kui Ren is a printing company located in the city of Kempten in southern Germany. During the printing process of books, it has designed a novel cover package form for customers. Finally, this package is named after the name of this company.

This package form has developed to many new forms, and the simplest form is currently mainly used for books with a thickness of less than 20mm.

The biggest difference between it and other package forms is that there are 8 indentation lines on the cover. The two outermost indentation lines on the upper and lower covers are glued with the book block, which guarantees the entire book. The shape is stable, and the book block is easier to spread. If the book block thickness is greater than 20mm and this type of wrapping is still used, it is necessary to add a layer of polyester material to the back of the book to strengthen the back of the book. 7. American Parcel Law

This kind of wrapping method first appeared in the United States, and is similar to the opera script style introduced earlier. However, the former uses paper with better flexibility as the loop backing paper, and its entire length is the same as the cover width; the latter uses cotton and linen fabric as the loop backing, and its length is also shorter. The seal has 4 indentation lines pressed upward, and the entire ring liner is bonded to the cover at the seal 2 and seal 3, with a width of approximately 10 to 12 mm. As shown in Figure 9. The back of the book block is not bonded to the cover, so an intermediate gap is formed when reading between the first to fourth indentation lines, the flatness of the book is good, and the book is not easy to deform after long-term reading.

Eight, hard cover package method

This form of cover wrapping is actually a transition form between paperback and hardcover books, similar to half-sided hardcover, but the text in the book block is not bound by thread but is glue bound.

The cover of this package form uses cardboard, so it is called "hard cover binding method". It has better protection for the cover than the yellow cardboard. The thickness of the cardboard depends on the thickness of the book block.

Books with hard cover wrapping methods often use the half-face method in hardcover book shell production. First, fold the ring liner in half. It is coated with glue on one side and fully adhered to the cover board. On the other side, only a layer of 3 to 5 mm wide tape is applied to the book block. The two front and back enclosures are connected by fabric and directly bonded to the back of the book block. Finally, if you need to print a book title or other decorative patterns, you can also use the printed color cover and cardboard mounting.

Nine, British cover wrapping method

The cover of this package form is a cardboard with 4 indentation lines, which is bonded to the book block at the back of the book and on the upper and lower sides, which is the same as the ordinary package form. The difference is that, under normal circumstances, the cover is larger than the width of the book block, similar to the floating mouth of the hardcover book. There is also a cover on the outside of the cover. It is printed on ordinary paper. The length of the cover should also be greater than the width of the cover. It should be folded back and forth. Similar to the hard cover of the hard cover, the entire cover must be on the jammed cover. The back of the book is glued, which is different from the hardcover book. Some books are not only glued at the back of the book, but also glued to the cover of the jam.
