Calibration of Abbe Refractometer

Before measuring, the instrument must be calibrated. Calibration can be performed with distilled water or standard glass blocks (standard glass models are marked with refractive index)

1. Calibration with distilled water

(1) Loosen the prism locking wrench and wipe the prism clean (note: use sewage alcohol or other volatile solvents, dry with lens paper)

(2) Use a dropper to put 2 ~ 3 drops of distilled water into the middle of the two prisms, close and lock

(3) Adjust the prism and turn the handwheel so that the refractive index reading is just the required data

(4) Check whether the black and white boundary line of the tube in the measuring tube coincides with the intersection point of the cross wire. If not, adjust the scale adjustment screw so that the intersection line of the intersection point of the cross wire coincides exactly; Adjust the Amish Prism handwheel until the dispersion disappears

2. Calibration with standard glass block

(1) Loosen the prism locking wrench and pull the entrance prism apart

(2) Drop naphthalene bromide (high refractive index liquid) on the polished bottom surface of the glass block, and stick it on the surface of the shading prism. The polished measuring surface of the glass block should be upward to receive light to make the field of view of the measuring tube Bright

(3) Adjust the handwheel so that the refractive index reading is exactly the known refractive index value of the standard glass block

(4) Observed from the measuring lens barrel, if the dividing line does not coincide with the intersection of the fork wires, adjust the screws to make them coincide. If there is dispersion, adjust the handwheel to eliminate the dispersion.

Maintenance and maintenance of Abbe refractometer

1. Before and after use and when changing samples, the working surface of the refractive prism system must be cleaned first.

2. The instrument should be placed in a dry, air-ventilated room to prevent mildew from forming on the optical parts.

3. When testing corrosive liquids, it should be cleaned in time (including optical parts, metal parts and their surfaces), and placed by erosion damage. The instrument must be cleaned after use

4. The tested sample should not have hard impurities. When testing the solid sample, it should be placed to pull the surface of the refracting prism or produce indentation

5. Always keep the instrument clean. Carefully touch the optical parts with your right hand or sweat stains. If there is dust on the surface of the optical parts, use high-grade deerskin or long-fiber absorbent cotton to gently dry it and blow it dry with a hairdryer. If the oil stains on the surface of the optical parts should be cleaned with alcohol and ether mixture in time

6. The instrument should avoid strong vibration or impact to prevent damage to optical parts and measurement accuracy

7. If the bulb in the spotlighting system is damaged, you can remove the spotlight master along the axis, replace it with a new bulb, and adjust the left and right position of the bulb (loose the set screw on the side) to focus the light on the refractive prism. On the low beam surface, there is no obvious deflection

8. Condenser lens should not be covered with plastic cover or placed in the box at the same time

9. Users are not allowed to disassemble and assemble the Abbe refractometer condenser lens at random. If the condenser lens fails or fails to meet the accuracy requirements, it should be sent to repair in time.
