What is type 2 diabetes?
Diabetes is a group of endocrine-metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia. It is characterized by metabolic disorders of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, electrolytes and water due to the absolute or relative deficiency of insulin and the decreased sensitivity of target cells to insulin.
Â
Type II diabetes, also known as adult-onset diabetes, develops after 35-40 years of age, accounting for more than 90% of diabetic patients. Its onset is associated with adverse environmental factors and unhealthy lifestyles. The disease is mild and the disease is slow. It is more common in adults, especially those over the age of 40, and patients are often obese. In patients with type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance is predominant, and the patient is obese. Because of insulin resistance, insulin sensitivity decreases, insulin in the blood increases to compensate for insulin resistance, but relative to patients' hyperglycemia, insulin secretion is still relatively insufficient. The early symptoms of such patients are not obvious, and major vascular and microvascular complications often occur before a definite diagnosis. Dietary therapy and oral hypoglycemic agents can be effective. The other part of the patient is mainly insulin-secreting, and it is clinically necessary to supplement exogenous insulin.
Â
The ability of insulin to produce insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes is not completely lost. Some patients even have too much insulin in their bodies, but the effect of insulin is greatly reduced. Therefore, insulin in patients is a relative lack. Certain oral drugs can stimulate the body's insulin secretion. However, some patients still need insulin therapy like type I diabetes.
Â
Since insulin resistance and insulin secretion in peripheral tissues of this type of diabetes are the main features, proper exercise can improve the sensitivity of peripheral tissues to insulin and correct glucose metabolism disorders. Therefore, type 2 diabetes is the main indication for exercise therapy of diabetes, and obese type 2 diabetes is the best indication.
